Isobel Knights and Martyn Knights are active in the Mearns. Sarah is one of 14 Lib Dem councillors on Aberdeenshire Council. The others represent other parts of Aberdeenshire.

Isobel Knights Your Candidate for Angus South

Isobel is the daughter of a steelworker, a grandmother, and a dedicated advocate for her community. She brings a broad and diverse professional background, with experience spanning local government, the armed forces, and the UK tourism sector. She later developed 18 years of expertise in the Oil & Gas energy industry, specialising in both domestic and international training. During this time, she also managed the UK’s first Emergency Response Service Centre for the sector.

She is an active Community Councillor and volunteers across several local initiatives, working to strengthen services and expand opportunities for residents. As a cancer survivor, she is a strong advocate for accessible health screening and support services. She is equally committed to improving the speed and quality of ASN assessment and educational support, ensuring that everyone can participate fully and confidently in society.

Coming to politics later in life, Isobel was motivated by growing concerns about the rise of populist politics and increasingly divisive, hate‑filled rhetoric. She is determined to help bring community discussions back to a respectful and constructive place.

Martyn Knights Your Candidate in Angus North & Mearns

Martyn Knights has lived with his family in the Angus North & Mearns area for over 23 years.

The son of a factory worker, Martyn spent his childhood in a tight-knit fishing community before joining the UK Armed Forces as a member of the Intelligence Corps, serving in (West) Germany and Northern Ireland.

On leaving the army he joined his local police force.

Following his service with the police, Martyn undertook roles in both local government and the NHS prior to working in the oil & gas industry specialising in crisis management and emergency response.

During his 18-year career in the oil and gas sector, Martyn has worked in several countries, including Azerbaijan and Canada.

Martyn has also volunteered as a regional ambassador (Northern Ireland & Scotland) for a national charity that helps people with long-term illnesses return to the workforce.

More recently, Martyn has been dedicated to supporting his wife Isobel through her successful fight against cancer.

Martyn is a community councillor. He enjoys cycling and is actively involved in coordinating social rides for his local community.

Martyn has come to politics late in life but has felt compelled to stand as he believes that society as a whole needs to improve immensely so that his grandchildren can grow up in a safe and prosperous country.
